According to Heike Bischoff-Ferrari, the first author of the study and professor of geriatric medicine and healthy longevity at the University of Zurich, “While the effects may appear small with three to four months rejuvenation of biological age in three years if sustained, they may have relevant effects on population health.”

Certain research indicated that omega-3, which is an unsaturated fatty acid found in oily fish, nuts, and seeds, shows the potential to modify the aging process.
However, scientists had difficulty predicting if humans would obtain helpful results by eating this substance.
The study employed epigenetic clocks as biological assessment tools that measured aging rate changes in people aged 70 and above during a large clinical trial in Switzerland.
DNA methylation results obtained from epigenetic clocks demonstrate chemical tissue modifications that reveal biological age instead of actual age, as the Guardian reported.
The trial separated its volunteers into eight distinct groups, each receiving one of the following daily rations: algae-based omega-3, vitamin D at 2,000 international units, or three weekly exercise sessions of thirty minutes or a combination of these.

What more have the studies indicated?
Different epigenetic clocks confirmed that omega-3 has anti-aging effects, but one specific test indicated that the clock slowed down further with both omega-3 and vitamin D and physical exercise.
Studies from Do-Health demonstrated additional omega-3 benefits by showing that older adults experienced fewer fall incidents at a rate of 10 percent and fewer infections at 13 percent.
The coexistence of omega-3, vitamin D, and exercise reduced the probability of pre-frailty by 39 percent, which is characterized by one or two symptoms of physical or mental decline preceding frailty status.
This preventive approach also decreased invasive cancer development by 61 percent.
