United States: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) moved Quaker Oats pancake mix recalls to the highest level during this week.

The Quaker Oats Company, which operates as a PepsiCo subsidiary, declared the recall of specific Original Pancake & Waffle Mix pearl products on January 14 through the Pearl Milling Company.

About FDA recall

The FDA updated the recall to the Class I category on Thursday, which pertained to “situation[s] in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of, or exposure to, a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death,” the New York Post reported.

As of January, the company also mentioned that there are specific two-pound boxes of the product containing “undeclared milk.”

Furthermore, “[The recall was announced] after being alerted by a retail partner,” the statement noted. “Those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the recalled product.”

Which are the affected states?

Pancake mix items from Quaker Oats reached retailers throughout Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nebraska, Utah, and Wisconsin.

The recalled products entered the market starting from November 18 of last year.

The recall affects only Specific Pearl Milling Company Original Pancake & Waffle Mixes having UPC code 30000 65040 with September 12, 2025 expiration.

The company stated, “No allergic reactions related to this matter have been reported to date.”

“If consumers have an allergy or sensitivity to milk, they should not consume the product and discard it immediately,” it added.

Since the beginning of 2017, Quaker Oats has conducted three product recalls throughout different periods. The December 2023 Quaker Oats product recall involved more than two dozen of their granola bars and cereal products at risk of salmonella contamination, as the New York Post reported.

Thousands of Quaker Rice Crisps Sweet Barbecue Flavor became subject to recall in March 2021 due to the potential unmarked addition of soy ingredients in the product.
